    THE CAIUS CLUB

The Caius College Club was founded exactly one hundred years ago to sponsor activities for friends of the College, and to "include any Caian who wishes to maintain links with the College and its past and present members".

The founding dinner was held in a famous London restaurant, Oddenino's, now the UK headquarters of Pringles (woollies not crisps!).

In 2009 we hosted the annual dinner, joined with the GBC for the May Bumps (now in its  thiteenth year), and the London Region held another successful dinner at the Oxford & Cambridge Club.

    THE ANNUAL DINNER

We alternate the format of the annual dinner to suit two groups of attendees. There are those who want to remember their Caius experience and chat to alumni of their day and years around it. There are others who want to bring partners or friends to enjoy a night in College, and we have been holding partnered dinners for many years now.  On 19 March 2010 we held our partnered dinner in College with Dr Tom Davies (1957) as dinner chairman.

    THE MAY BUMPS

In June 2009, a dry and sunny day, about 400 folk gathered in Caius Meadow for the last day of the Mays event, or as the Boat Club had it "a touch of Henley".

We share the space with our guests St John's, Trinity Hall, and Magdalene, so the atmosphere was again charged with friendly rivalry. There was a drinks stall hosted by Linklaters, the Boat Club sponsors.

In view of the weather we didn't need our emergency marquee, which was used instead as a sun shade for those with seriously sized picnic baskets!

The next May Bumps Event will be held on 12 June 2010 (tbc). Application forms are integral with the annual dinner form, and can be separately sent through this link: May Bumps Form.  Please print out and return to Hon Treasurer, Caius College Club, Gonville and Caius College, Cambridge CB2 1TA.

THE SLIGHTLY MORE FORMAL LONDON EVENT

In October 2009 the Caius Club held a fabulous dinner at the Oxford and Cambridge Club. Just over 50 guests gathered in the sumptuous surroundings of the club on Pall Mall for a delicious meal and the opportunity to catch up with old friends and to make some new ones.

The guests ranged from recent graduates to veterans of the Caius Club, including some of the first ladies to be admitted to the college, one of whom celebrated her birthday at the event.

The surprise guest of honour was Josh West, our very own silver medal winning Caian, fresh from the Olympic open-top bus tour and meeting the Queen. He told us how much Caius had done to support his rowing efforts and commented on how fortunate Caians are to have access to such fantastic facilities, not only for academic learning, but also for ‘extra-curricular’ activities.

Following the success of the three London dinners held at the Oxford & Cambridge Club once again thanks to the intercession of Dr Anne Lyon the Club has again agreed to give us a concessionary rate for this year's dinner.

The dinner will be held in the Coffee Room (main dining room) as in the past it has not been possible to accommodate all those wishing to attend in the Princess Marie Louise Room. There will be a champagne reception followed by a three course dinner accompanied by fine wines.

This event is managed by David Howell Jones (and June has a lot to do with it as well).  This  years London Dinner will be held on 15 October 2010 at the Oxford & Cambridge Club. Download the application form. Completed forms should be printed out and posted, with payment, to David.

    THE LONDON REGIONAL INFORMAL EVENT

The (not so slightly) informal London event will be held in the new year in the West End - this website will carry details in due course.

Members who can make the West End or City and are interested in an informal meeting with snacks in the West End (typical venue: the Zoo Bar, Jamie's Bar, Tiger Tiger etc) should email the contact address below.

WANT MORE FROM YOUR CLUB? JOIN THE AD HOC COMMITEE!

If you are a member interested in the future of the college and its alumni social life, and want to make a difference, then don't be afraid to volunteer for a tour of duty in the "ad hoc" club committee.
