    Clergyman and benefactor. The first founder of the College, then commonly known as Gonville Hall.
     
    William Bateman
    Bishop of Norwich, diplomat and founder of Trinity Hall, Cambridge. The second founder of Gonville Hall; responsible for providing statutes, endowment, and moving the College to its current site.
